In Greek mythology, Medusa was a beautiful young woman who had a curse put upon her. She became green in complexion and had serpents growing from her head rather than hair. She left Greece to wander the continent of Africa in exile. Legend says that if a person gazed upon her they would turn into stone. Often some of the serpents would fly from her head only to be replaced by new ones. This is the reason that Africa is so prolific with vipers. In this piece we her Medusa wandering through Africa with serpents flying from her head and on occasion stopping as someone looks upon her as they turn into stone. This piece makes use of quarter tones in the string section, according to a tonal scale of my creation, and the time signature changes frequently.
